Some of the best places for a chimpanzee trekking safari

Although chimpanzees are probably the best-known primate species to most of us – from their inclusion in popular movies, to the likelihood of encountering them at a local zoo – seeing wild chimpanzees in their natural forest habitat is an otherworldly experience.

These destinations are equally wonderful at providing an immersive trekking experience with wild chimpanzees. The remote communities near these areas have ongoing community development and conservation projects to promote the health of the forests that the chimps call home – most notably in Tanzania, a major focus area of the research of famous primatologist, Jane Goodall.

Both Tanzanian destinations are on its western border, on the shores of Lake Tanganyika. This very remote area is reachable with a regional air carrier and subsequent transfer by vehicle or by boat.
